　　ABSTRACT
　　In the progress of global economic and trade integration, more and more Chinese enterprises begin to participate in international commercial competition. As a new type of international trading, bidding and bid activities are gradually familiar to our Chinese people. Due to its advantages of open competition, international bidding and bid activities have become one major type of international trading for goods, works or services. For the procurement of many large-scale and medium-sized projects or projects using loans from foreign governments or international financial organizations, it is generally provided that international competitive bidding (ICB) should be adopted in order to carry out the projects validly and legitimately. It is also international practice that bidding documents and bids should be prepared in English for the procurement of goods, works and services subject to bidding. Even if another language is allowed for these documents, they should be accompanied by an English translation for future reference. Should any discrepancy occur during the interpretation of the documents, the English version prevails. As a result, sufficient attention must be paid to the comprehension bidding documents and bids, which lay a fundamental basis for competitive bidding throughout the whole bidding process.
　　In essence, bidding documents and bids are one kind of commercial contracts classified as frozen-style legal language. It is crucial to understand English bidding and tender documents well to let bidding activities go on wheels. However the specific study of the linguistic characteristics of these documents is limited. Aiming at this problem, this thesis, which is based on the analysis of typical examples of standard English bidding and tender documents, gives a systematic and concrete description of the linguistic characteristics of English bidding and tender documents.
　　This paper is divided into three parts. At the beginning, a brief introduction of this thesis is provided, which involves research background, rational of the thesis, data and methodology and the introduction of English bidding and tender documents. Then based on the analysis of typical examples, part two gives a concrete and detailed description of the linguistic characteristics of the English bidding and tender documents, mainly in three aspects—lexicon, syntax and grammar. At last, part three, a conclusion to end up the whole paper is put forward.

　　摘要
　　随着全球经济贸易一体化的不断发展，越来越多的中国企业开始参与国际贸易竞争。招标投标，作为一种新型的贸易，逐渐被国人所知。由于公开竞争的优势，国际招投标是货物、工程或服务等国际贸易的主要方式之一。许多大中型工程项目和物资采购，特别是外国政府贷款项目和国际金融组织的贷款项目，都规定采用国际竞争性招标，以保证贷款得到有效合法的利用。按照国际惯例，利用招标方式采购货物、工程和服务时，与招标活动有关的招标文件和投标文件，均须用英文编制，即使允许用非英文的语言编制，也须随附一份英文译本备案，发生含义解释分歧时以英文版为准。因此对招投标文件的理解就成了竞标的基础工作，贯穿于整个竞标过程，必须予以足够的重视。
　　招投标文件实质上是一种商业合同，属于法律语言范畴。对于招投标文件的理解对招投标活动的顺利进行至关重要，然而目前国内对招投标文件的语言特点的研究很有限。为了解决这个问题，本文通过对经典语句例子的分析，归纳了招投标文件的语言特点。
　　本篇论文分成三部分。第一部分是简短的介绍，包括研究背景、题材合理性、资料和研究方法、以及英语招投标文件相关信息的介绍。第二部分通过对典型例子的分析，主要从词汇学、句法学以及语法这三个方面，详尽分析英语招投标文件的语言特点。最后一个部分则是全文的总结。
