Hakka’s nature worship and its modern value
——A Case Study of Hakka’s Tree Worship in Bobai Guangxi
Abstract
This article is mainly based on the field-work investigation, through the discussion and description of nature worship (taking Hakka’s tree worship in Bobai as a case study) which reveals that Hakka’s people inherit the beliefs and custom. After settling down in Bobai, Hakka’s people brought the area highly developed civilization from Central Plains, they also retained the beliefs and custom of Central Plains, and tree worship is one of them. Bobai Hakka’s tree worship is expressed through the tree’s taboo in the society and agreement with tree.The tree worship which manifests not only the devotion of Bobai Hakka’s people to gods but also manifested the idea of harmonious relationship between people and the nature. On the one hand, it maintains ecological environment and has certain economic value; on the other hand, it is advantageous to transform Bobai Hakka’s culture into productive forces, and promote development of Hakka’s ecology and tourism in Bobai.
