The Error Analyses of Translation in TEM-8
Abstract: The translation of TEM-8 should be faithful to the original context with language fluency. According to examination syllabus of TEM-8 and test grading criteria, this article starts with several typical mistranslation examples in TEM-8 to find out the errors that students are prone to making, and makes a comprehensive analysis of these errors. The author analyzes the English original, the reference version, and compares them with the candidate's version to find shortcomings of candidates in TEM-8. Based on the author's practical experience, existing information and research results, the main reasons that English majors making error in translation are as follows: weak basic skills in English and Chinese, resulting several problems, such as: translating words literally, abusing articles, using words redundantly, and not meeting expressions of target language, and so on; poor understanding of the original text, resulting in improper translation cohesion, fuzzy information emphasis and illogical expressions; few related background knowledge, resulting the mistranslation of names, works, etc.
Through analyzing and researching the test papers of TEM-8, it aims to identify the candidates’ shortcomings in translation. And it will get some solutions from analyzing test theory and translation theory, which may be helpful for English majors who are bending themselves to TEM-8.
