Humanism originated in the ancient Greek philosopher Protagoras's maxim - "Man is the measure of all things." As a desire to pursue human nature, it abandoned the narrow renaissance philosophy, religious dogma and abstract reasoning. The value of order of God was turned into the value of people-oriented. It advocated the freedom of thought and personal liberation. So that it becomes a universal world culture. Nowadays, humanism refers to the theories and doctrines of nature of man, meaning, mission, status, values, characteristics, etc. The essence and ultimate significance is people-oriented, with pure love and good talent to pursue the highest human well-being.
Humanist's social values tend to the care of human personality, pay attention to the maintenance of human dignity, promote tolerance, oppose violence and advocate freedom, equality and self-worth. Humanist emphasizes on people, the main body, life, subjective, individual existence, free will, values, intuition, experience, emotion, etc.
Humanism is a large concept, there are many schools and branches.
The Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy Jacques Lefèvre d'étaples once said," Here, one felt no weight of the supernatural pressing on the human mind, demanding homage and allegiance. Humanity—with all its distinct capabilities, talents, worries, problems, possibilities—was the center of interest. It has been said that medieva l thinkers philosophized on their knees, but, bolstered by the new studies, they dared to stand up and to rise to full stature".
Here historian Steven Kreis emphasized the importance of individuals. Yes, what is the best way to express humanism, that would be the vivid description of an individual!
"If human think, God will laugh", before God, and humans will always be that stupid and foolish, and even today, in a technology so developed era. People tend to be itself trapped in the known area, oneself will own sensory closed in a knowable "safe" range. Just like people need to maintain some sort of rules, they are trying to make sure that circumjacent environment has not changed, as if it's just out of the repeated such laws. So everything that is general, will not change the practice of self-deception. But who can guarantee that, when the fear of the unknown comes down, the threat of death draws on. And how many people will realize that winter will come!
