The study of cross culture foreign language teaching in China has been nearly 60 years of history. Nowadays, the cultivation of intercultural communication ability in foreign language teaching has caused a lot of attention of many educators. How to achieve cross cultural exchanges and second language learning is a problem worthy of attention and consideration. In today's education, foreign language teaching experts and scholars have debated the topic.
"Cross cultural communication" refers to the activities of people in different ways to achieve the purpose of smooth communication. Cross cultural communication ability is cultivated in the traditional classroom teaching, the teacher often emphasizes the target language and culture too much. When students learn the knowledge of the classroom as a rule, once the face of the exchange of real objects, they often lack the ability to live in the field, the ability to cross cultural communication can not be improved.
The advent of the "silent language", which marks the beginning of the study of intercultural communication, is becoming more and more important for the language workers to realize the importance of intercultural communication competence. Emphasizing the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence, we should talk about the relationship between vocabulary and culture. The vocabulary in a language is not isolated, it is a very important part of culture, vocabulary has the characteristics of culture, it is the carrier of culture, language, vocabulary and cultural interaction, mutual constraints. The relationship between vocabulary and culture in language has been the most obvious in the communication of people with different cultural background, so that the purpose of language and culture can survive in the context of the mother tongue, so that students can effectively cross cultural communication.
Hammerly (1982) proposed the culture teaching in the early, middle and advanced stages. The first stage mainly introduced the connotation and meaning of the words, and the second stage is to guide the students to understand the cultural differences and customs. The third stage is to guide the students to study the target culture and to investigate the importance of the culture.
According to the present situation of foreign language teaching in China, a language is not limited to the language itself, the culture teaching is an important aspect to cultivate students' intercultural communicative competence. Therefore, it is necessary to cultivate students' intercultural communication and second language vocabulary learning.
