5.1.1.1Amplification

Amplification means adding the background knowledge which is helpful and sometimes necessary for the target readers to understand the concerned content of the target text.Example: (ST)林边有一个洞，叫白龙洞。传说《白蛇传》的白娘子曾经在这里修炼。(TT)Near the forest is the White Dragon Cave, which is said to be the very place where Lady White, the legendary heroine of The Story of the White Snake, cultivated herself according to Buddhist doctrine. Lady White is widely known in China, but it is not the case in foreign countries. So the explanation of her identity is the precondition of the introduction’ s readability.

5.1.1.2Abridgement

In the translation of tourism literature, it is important to abridge the unnecessary content of the original text which is of hindrance for the foreign readers to understand the target text or influence the conciseness emphasized by foreigners.Example: (ST)刘备章武三年病死于白帝城永安宫，五月运回成都，八月葬于惠陵。(TT)LiuBei died of illness in 223 at Fengjie county，Sichuan Province，and was buried here in the same year.The original text includes many dates and many names of places which are dispensable for the target reader to get the main idea and if translated word for word, it will confuse the readers. So the translator only translates the main idea and the target text can be clearly comprehended.

5.1. 1.3Analogy

Analogy means reasoning based on partial similarities between two things that are compared. Finding counterparts in another culture can make foreign readers feel closer and more familiar with Chinese culture, realizing the communicative purpose effectively.Example: (ST)银川是宁夏回族自治区的首府，位于宁夏自治区中心。

(TT)Honored as a smaller Mecca, Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located in central.The Holy Land Mecca is world-famous, the appearance of which will help foreign readers understand Yinchuan’ s position in Islam.

5.1.1.4Annotation

Annotation means adding explanatory notes. It is usually used to explain the literal meaning of the transliterated names of scenic spots or places. The foreign readers can establish the relation between the pronunciation and the meaning and understand the origin of the name.Example: (ST)这里有传说中的白鹤泉、笑啼崖、响鼓岭等旅

游点。(TT)There are also legendary Baihe (White Crane) Spring,Xiaoti (laugh and cry) Cliff and Xianggu (Loud Drum) Ridge.The use of annotation can visualize the names of places, motivate the foreign readers’ imagination and increase their interests in the content, achieving the communicative function of the tourism literature.

5.1.1.5Adaptation

Due to different in history and culture the foreign tourists may know nothing about some specific information in the tour guide manuals that are well known to Chinese people. In this situation, the translators have the responsibility to add some explanation in the translation so that English version can be understood easily by the foreign tourists and can be more impressive and enjoyable. There are two examples from website  like this:

岱庙位于泰山南麓泰安城中部，又名东岳庙、泰岳庙、岱岳庙，俗称泰庙，是古代祭岱的主要场所。

Dai temple locates in the south of Mount Tai and center of Tai’an City, also called Dongyue (mountain in the east) temple, Taiyue (supreme mountain) temple, Daiyue (revered mountain) temple. It is usually called Tai Temple by common civilian. Dai Temple is main place to hold worship ceremony.3.3　Rewring

The strategy of rewriting refers to the contents or the structure of the source text 

to improve the readability of the target text. In this case, rewriting works more effectively than literal translation as displayed in the following sentence:

这里三千座奇峰拔地而起，形态各异，有的似玉柱神鞭，立地顶天；有的像铜墙铁壁，巍然屹立；有的如晃板磊卵，摇摇欲坠；有的若盆景古董，玲珑剔透……神奇而又现实，迷离而又实在，不是艺术创造胜似艺术创造，令人叹为观止。

3000 crags rise in various shapes——pillars, columns, walls, shaky egg stacks and potted landscapes…——conjuring up unforgettably fantastic images. （贾文波2004：121）

Because of the big differences in thought patterns and aesthetic views between Chinese and western people, the same text type may be different in language styles.

Cross-culture consciousness is a must for the translator, who should always be tourist-oriented and as ready as tour guides are in promoting Chinese culture.
